Sharing is caring!

Alright, alright, alright! Today we’re talking about the best treatment for aging hands and how to make hands look younger! If you’re like me, your hands are one of the first things to show signs of aging.

You have come to the right place if this is true for you!

I recently snapped a quick pic for the gram to show off my new summer nail color and had what I would call a rude awakening! My hands look so old!

Then and there, I made it my mission to give my hands some well-deserved and long overdue TLC, and guess what? My aging hands started to look and feel younger in no time!

My hands tell a story of a life well-lived, and for that, I am thankful

The Best Treatment for Aging Hands:

improve the appearance of aging hands by wearing sunscreen

SUNSCREEN. Apply sunscreen to your hands every day.

The best treatment for aging hands is to avoid what ages them the most in the first place—the sun.

One of the best ways to help hands look younger and look young is to wear sunscreen—every day.

A broad-spectrum sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 50 or higher will go a long way to prevent future UV damage and lessen the appearance of age spots and wrinkles on your hands.

Apply sunscreen even when you don’t think you will need it. Believe it or not- the sun’s harmful UV rays come through windows. That’s why we tend to have more sun damage on the sides of our faces and our hands. And don’t forget to reapply sunscreen often!

Another good reason to wear sunscreen to help hands stay younger is that a recent study found that the nail lamps at salons used to cure nails can cause DNA damage to the skin, resulting in premature aging and possibly cancer.

Tip: Apply sunscreen before your manicurist puts your hands under the light to cure gel or acrylic nails.

improve the appearance of aging hands with exfoliation

Exfoliation: an excellent aging hands treatment

Exfoliating your hands is an excellent treatment for aging hands!

When exfoliating your body or face, don’t forget about your hands! Exfoliating your hands will help them to look younger and softer too!

There are two kinds of exfoliating methods.

Physical Exfoliation:

You can exfoliate your hands using a washcloth or a face scrub. But if you want to go the extra mile, I suggest getting a little more aggressive with dry brushing.

Have you ever heard of dry brushing? When you use a natural bristle brush to remove the dry skin and dead skin cells from the skin. For example, I brush the tops of the palms and on fingers and knuckles.

Chemical Exfoliation:

Chemical peels are also helpful to treat dark spots and pigmentation on hands and help exfoliate the dead skin cells from the skin.

I use the Ordinary’s peeling solution and love it! I do a chemical face peel about once a week and always do my hands simultaneously.

The ordinary has fantastic products that don’t break the bank, which is always a bonus.

Moisturizing is one of the best treatments for aging hands!

Simply keeping hands well moisturized is one of the best treatments for aging hands.

Dry skin=Old looking skin! Don’t let your hands get dried out! Moisturizing hands is one of the fastest ways to make hands look younger instantly!

Make a habit of putting on lotion regularly during the day and every time you wash your hands.

Stock up on hand cream and have them at the ready everywhere! (desk, car, purse, by every sink in the house, etc.). It’s impossible to over-moisturize your hands!

How to make old hands look younger in no time! by wearing gloves

Wear gloves to protect your hands

Another treatment for aging, wrinkled hands is to avoid damage to your hands!

I’m going to be straight with you. I have a hard time with this one. But, of course, I garden and paint and do more than my fair share of dishes and household chores. And I rarely wear gloves!

But listen! There are all kinds of gloves.

Gardening gloves, gloves for washing dishes and doing household chores, gloves for painting, gloves for working out, gloves for cold weather, and even driving gloves!

As I write this, I solemnly vow to remember to wear my gloves when washing the dishes and using harsh chemicals.

SERUMS. Work like magic for aging hands!

Serums are an excellent treatment for aging hands!

Serums absorb quickly into the skin and contain a high concentration of active ingredients. Serums are great because you can mix and match based on your needs.

There are many different serums, each with a unique purpose and ingredients. Expensive serums are not necessarily the best. So it’s a good idea to do your homework.

I apply serums to my hands twice daily during my morning and night skincare routine.

The essential serum is a vitamin c serum by timeless. I also use hyaluronic acid serum and nicidamine, all from the ordinary.

Since I added to my skincare routine, I have noticed a considerable improvement in my skin!

How to make old hands look younger in no time! with Retin-a

Retin-A + Retinol (The holy grail in anti-aging treatments)

Both over-the-counter and prescription topical creams containing retinol or retinoic acid can improve brown spots on your hands. Improving those dark spots will make your hands look a lot younger!

Retin-A is the gold standard of anti-aging creams. If you can, have your doctor prescribe Retin-A to help with the signs of aging on your hands and lessen the appearance of age spots.

If you can’t get your hand on a prescription, I suggest retinol hand cream. I get it on Amazon, and I like it. A little goes a long way, and it’s so affordable!

How to make old hands look younger- with laser treatments

Laser Treatments for aging hands

Now we’re cooking with gas! Laser treatments can bring about more dramatic results to make hands look younger!

IPL treatments and fractional lasers do wonders to improve the skin’s texture and lighten or remove pigmentation, age spots, and sun damage from the skin.

Lasers also help to boost collagen production as well! Collagen will help plump up the hands, which helps with the volume lost through the aging process.

Laser treatments for hands can be expensive, but they are among the best treatments for wrinkled hands.

Fillers: a new treatment for wrinkled hands

After watching several people do so on YouTube and TikTok, I bought this device on Amazon. This little gem burns off skin tags, age spots, and even small moles!

I have been driving my husband nuts with this thing! It works!

It considerably lightens the large darker spots, and 100% eradicates the small ones! Hand to God!

OK! I got to say this seems pretty extreme, and I don’t know much about this, but apparently, you can have fillers injected into your aging hands to replace volume loss from aging.

Here’s a video from my favorite YouTube Beauty gurus, Angie from Hot and Flashy.

I have to say, the results look pretty amazing! However, I’m not sure I can justify the cost right now. What do you think? Be sure to weigh it down in the comments below.

The best treatment for aging hands

Get manicures & use nail treatments.

Of course, healthy and manicured nails go a long way in helping hands’ appearance. In addition, bio-weekly manicures are great for making you look younger.

As I mentioned, my nails have gotten weak and brittle with age AND from years and years of gel and acrylic manicures.

So during the Covid lockdown, I had no choice but to break the acrylic and gel manicures cycle.

Hard as Hoof!

I found the best nail strengthening cream out there! Hard as hoof (I know it’s a strange name) has been around for over 25 years.

I have to say it’s like a miracle! My nails have gotten so much stronger!

If you’ve got weak, brittle nails-it’s the best $8 you will ever spend!

One of my all-time favorite supplements is collagen!

Suppose you have been hanging around my blog for a while! That’s because I believe it helps!

I first discovered Collagen and Collagen Peptides via one of my favorite health and nutrition gurus, Dr. Axe.

If you don’t follow Dr. Axe– Do! He provides a wealth of health and wellness information that has helped me. For example, he has several articles about collagen, the different types of collagen, and collagen peptides.

I have been taking collagen for years! I put two scoops in my morning coffee every day!

Benefits of collagen peptides:

  • Improves skin and hair
  • Helps joints
  • Boosts Metabolism, Muscle, and Energy Output

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

Drink all the water! And then drink some more!

Proper hydration is key to turning back the hands of time! Pun intended! LOL.

Drinking enough water has so many health & beauty benefits that it will blow your mind.

  1. This is a super post and I am going to start caring for mine straight away. It makes sense that you can use same products as you use on your face. I do use sunscreen if I am out for a long time in the sun playing golf or walking. But I am lazy about some of the tips.

  2. I wrote a blog about the journey of our hands and also offered similar recommendations on caring for our hands. I do try to exfoliate often and I also put extra face serum on my hands too. Great tips here 🙂
