Coconut Water 101:
Coconut water is an increasingly popular drink that comes from the clear liquid inside young coconuts.
Even though it has a crisp and refreshing taste, there’s more to this beverage than just hydration – its mix of electrolytes like potassium, sodium, and magnesium makes coconut water ideal for those looking to prevent or treat dehydration and a perfect natural drink alternative to sports drinks.
When harvested early on in development, these green-colored coconuts provide what’s known as ‘green coconut water’ – both invigorating and equally effective at treating medical conditions such as high blood pressure.
In addition, Coconut water has natural antibacterial and antimicrobial properties which can be beneficial in fighting infections, warding off disease, and boosting your immune system.

It’s important to note the difference between coconut water and coconut oil.
Coconut water is the liquid found inside young green coconuts, while coconut oil is made from the meat of mature brown coconuts.
Coconut Water vs Coconut Milk
Coconut water should also not be confused with coconut milk, which is made by pressing together the meat of a mature brown coconut.
Coconut milk is much higher in fat content than coconut water and has a thicker consistency as well.
It is commonly used as an ingredient in recipes such as curries or desserts, while coconut water is mostly used as a beverage.
Coconut water vs Sports Drinks
Finally, coconut water is also often confused with sports drinks and other electrolyte-enriched beverages.
Many of these sports drinks contain added sugar and other chemicals that are not present in coconut water making coconut water a healthier choice than most sports drinks.
