Symbols of Christmas

Before I share my list of Christian Christmas crafts for kids, I thought you might be interested in some of the common Christmas symbols and their meanings.

Many symbols for Christmas represent Christ and His love:

  • Star- The star that guided the three wise men to Jesus’ birth could be seen as a symbol of hope since it foretells an event long ago and shines brightly in our futures
  • Christmas Tree– Christmas trees are evergreen representing eternal life.
  • Candy Cane – red represents the blood Jesus spilled,, and white represents purity.
  • Poinsettia-A winter flower has been known to stand for purity, good cheer, and success.
  • Wreath – its never-ending circular shape represents eternal life.
  • Angels-Angels represent the role they played in the birth of Jesus Christ. Several angels appear in the biblical story of the first Christmas.
  • Dove – peace on Earth that comes through Jesus Christ.
  • Christmas lights-Lights represent the star of David in Bethlehem the night Jesus was born.
  • Snowflake-Snowflakes are a symbol of the cold winter and represent purity.
  • Presents-Giving presents at Christmas reminds us of the presents given to Jesus by the Wise Men.
  • Bells– Bells have been rung for centuries to announce the arrival of the Christmas season!.

They can symbolize the announcement of the birth of Christ when angels in heaven praised God and declared, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men” (Luke 2:14).
