It’s essential to have a good skincare routine in place for both morning and bedtime. Recently I took my nighttime skincare regimen up a notch by adding double-cleansing. In this post I will fill you in on everything double cleansing and why you need to do it.
So what is double cleansing anyway?
Double cleansing is just what you are thinking. It’s cleansing your face not once but twice! I know what you’re thinking. I thought the same. Read on.
As you know, cleansing your skin before bedtime is essential. It has to happen no matter what! Right?!
Throughout the day- makeup, sunscreen, dirt, sweat, oil, and pollutants accumulate on your skin. It’s pretty gross when you think about it!
Double cleansing is the best way to make sure you remove all the gunk so that your skin can breathe, drink in all the yummy skincare you’ve applied, and you can get some serious beauty rest knowing you did your skin a solid.
Here’s how it works:
First, you use an oil-based cleanser, I love, love, love Clinique’s Take the day off Balm. I’ve used it for years-but any oil-based fac cleanser will do.
Most nights, I use the balm because it’s like a mini-spa experience. I apply the balm and then take a nice hot-steamy washcloth and put it on my face.
I let it steam my face a minute and then clean my face with the warm washcloth. It’s delightful, and it removes the makeup and grim easy peasy.
When I’m in a rush or super tired-I also use Neutrogena makeup remover wipes for step one. They do a great job removing the makeup, are super handy, AND I get them in bulk at Costco. Sometimes I need two to get the job done.
I have heard that micellar water works well for step one, but I don’t care for Micellar water. I’ve tried micellar water twice, and both times it burned my eyes. So it’s just not for me. But I want you to know it is an option for step numero uno.
After the first step has removed most of the makeup and impurities, step two involves a good old-fashioned scrub with a water-based cleanser and water.
I use my Clarisonic or my Foreo Luna. They both help to exfoliate my skin while cleansing it, and it feels like a mini face massage.
During this second step, you will get off any dirt and grime left behind, and your face will be squeaky clean and ready for your regular skincare routine!
Adding the second cleanse will only add about 2 minutes to your nighttime beauty routine.
My nighttime skincare routine consists of double cleansing (as just outlined), Serums and an emollient nighttime moisturizer, and eye cream. You can read all about my nighttime routine here.
I hope this inspires you to try double cleansing.
I know it seems like a pain in the neck to have to wash your face twice, but I promise your face will thank you.
Until next time- Be well.
